Founder of Fulltone, Mike Fuller is once again able to get his hands on matched pairs of germanium transistors, which is finally enabling Fulltone to create a pedal mirroring the tone of his very first pedal, dating back to ! Proud of its solid construction, and resilience, this pedal really is as die-hard as the players coming out of the 60s period.

Dating from the late 60s – has BCCs. Required a new pot, jack socket – sounds stunning. Missing rubber tread from face. Surely one of the most iconic vintage guitar pedals, in excellent condition for its age.
Jimi Hendrix’s Stratocasters, Flying Vs, Marshall amps, and Fuzz pedals. a Marshall Supa Fuzz, Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz, and Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face. guitar was also seen on one of Jimi’s earliest TV appearances, in May Dating [ ].
The distorted and almost flatulent sound initially annoyed Snoddy, and he requested a redo. Martin, producer Don Law and the other musicians convinced him that they had stumbled on something new. So I had to get busy and conjure some other way to make it happen. Snoddy took apart the bad transformer and built a foot-operated pedal to duplicate the sound. Guitar distortion had been around almost as long as the electric guitar.
It sounded kind of synthetic, and far from warm or earthy. His mother was a homemaker, and his father, who died when Glenn was 12, was a postal carrier and served as the song leader at his local church. Snoddy studied trombone and piano at an early age but became an engineer after serving as an Army radio technician in the Pacific during the Second World War.
It produces a characteristic high distorted sound called fuzz. Ivor Arbiter took the round shaped enclosure idea from a microphone stand and it was the first pedal including a DPDT stomp-switch. The effect became very popular because Jimi Hendrix played it and there were not many distortion pedals around at that time. The gist of the Fuzz Face remains in the simple circuit that uses eleven components 2 transistors, 4 resistors, 3 caps and 2 pots and the astonishing tones created with them; delivering a soft asymmetrical clipping that changes to hard clipping in both semi-cycles under the fuzz pot action.
Arbitrer Electronics manufactured the pedal from to , Dallas Music Industries did a final batch in , after that the production stopped. During its lifetime the pedal went through some minor cosmetic but major sonic changes.
After all you Fuzz face dating did just remove the top layer of your skin. Sometimes you have peach fuzz on your face that youd like to remove.

Gibson Produces first ever Fuzz Pedal – the Maestro FZ-1 and my favourite to-date although the CV Germanium Fuzz (Fuzz Face).
The section that follows contains information I have pieced together over the years with the help and generosity of a few jolly nice folks. I have tried to explain the history and development of the Tone Bender from to approx in a clear and understandable manner so it can be easily used as a reference and a one track article on Tone Bender development.
It is by no means a complete work and I will update and add to this page as and when I have further info. The MKI was a three transistor circuit that was based upon the Gibson built Maestro Fuzz-tone that was modified by Hurst to produce more sustain than its American counter part. The Tone Bender was one the first ever British made Fuzz box available to the public and sold for 14 guineas.
These pedals had what appears to be dry letter transfers for the labelling which was hand applied, note how little labelling is actually left intact on the above example. Probably only a very small number were made before the pedal was labeled using a silk screened approach. It was based upon the FZ-1 circuit as where many of the early fuzz boxes to arrive on the scene but had significant modifications that made for a much stronger and more powerful fuzz sound.
Firstly was the fact it was able to use a 9 volt supply not 3 volts in the case of the FZ This with the tweaking of certain resistor values gave the longer sustain time and also much more output volume. The two pictured MKI’s on this page when side by side do sound different. The slightly earlier model with the dry letter labelling has much more of a FZ-1 character to the tone and is very reminiscent of Jeff Beck’s use of a MKI on tracks such as “Heartful of Soul” The silk screened model is much more focused and tighter sounding, you can defiantly hear how the circuit has been refined and tuned from one pedal to the next.
The output level is well over double that of the other MKI and when correctly dialled in has fierce amounts sustain with truly astounding clarity for such an old device.

Rather I learned real results were comparable to getting a deep exfoliating facial with extractions while also removing peach fuzz. With the first few swipes I could see my peach fuzz start to build up on the quotedgequot or blade of the device. To see all content on The Sun please use the Site Map.
It’s very difficult to place an exact date on them but AFAIK the earliest date code on a Fuzz Face is September , and there’s strong anecdotal.
From these humble origins, the RAT has evolved from a single, hand built prototype into a family of the most versatile and most recorded distortion pedals in the world. Do you want to see how the RAT has evolved? Also, since there is no accurate way of dating a RAT pedal by its serial number alone, this timeline can help you determine the general age your pedal. All of the holes were hand drilled and were finished in a black crinkle coating with a bright florescent silk-screened logo.
Only twelve of these pedal were built, one prototype and eleven production models. To give the RAT a unique look, a custom 20 gauge wrap-around enclosure was designed. The white RAT logo was silk-screened on black, painted metal. The Tone control increased high frequencies when it was turned clockwise, the opposite of later models. The Rat ver. The Filter cuts high frequencies as it is turned clockwise. While the circuit remained the same, the enclosure evolved into a more compact version, with a gauge U-shaped base.
The Pro Co logo sat next to the RAT logo on the pedal top, silk-screened in black inside of a white box.

Last time I did a Tone Bender overview I limited the selection to 12, and as much by chance as anything else I still managed to get a pretty decent roundup of most of the main Tone Bender varieties although not quite all as featured here. Up steps former Vox employee – electronic engineer Gary Stuart Hurst who introduces a 9 Volt battery to pedals for the first time – and makes further tweaks to give Vic exactly the sort of pedal he was looking for.
Over the years the Tone Bender inspired, evolved and even borrowed from other similar circuits – yielding 9 closely related circuits – as detailed in the heavily compacted chronology below:. In looking at the selection in the above top image, these are obviously my own choices – with Basic Audio, Expresso Effects and Hudson Electronics being some of my favourites in this area. Generally I dislike enormously the over-sized old-school enclosures used in the 60’s and still utilised by so many of today’s builders.
If you have info to verify or correct a date, or see an omission, please let me know. This is generally accepted as the first recorded use of a fuzz pedal in a ‘rock.

Read the current issue of VG. He also fed a fashion for fuzz. Fuzz was nothing new. In fact, the search for good fuzz was long and proud. But these were crude solutions, not always repeatable on demand or controllable under fire. When he relocated to London in , the Maestro was an expensive rarity.
Can someone help me date my Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face? See what year it was made and if its a Reissue n such? Heres what I belive is the serial number.
By Bianca London for MailOnline. More than half of all women are concerned about excess body hair, ranking it just behind weight gain for body dissatisfaction. So is it worth it? Male volunteers were asked to share their views on female body hair, and it seems that the answer is a resolute ‘yes’. One in ten women suffers from excess facial and body hair – and spend hours laboriously plucking, shaving, waxing and dyeing.
Whilst they believe that you should be as hairy or hair-free as you very well please, the site thought it would be interesting to get men’s frank and candid opinions about body hair and their landscaping likes and dislikes. Here are the top twelve responses I suppose my preference would be no hair but if there is, then anything well-groomed is fine. If they’re rocking facial hair, that’s not a good thing because I’ll probably feel emasculated it took me a month to grow a beard!
One man said: ‘I don’t like girls with moustaches just like they don’t like mine! Any strays can be really off-putting, but equally I appreciate that keeping the area well kempt sometimes leads to fairly aggressive rashes, which is also off-putting.

Pedals brands can issue new effects making your guitar sounds like an organ, a piano or your deceased aunt voice, it all started and will end with this scandalous tone of fuzz. If you play electric guitar, you know that is the tone you want and that you will never regret buying. Even several of them.
If you’re not into a hairy face, move on quickly as you might be swiping left for a while. This is a dating app for those wanting some facial fuzz.
Disclaimer: A fuzz face is not an easy pedal to get a great sound out of! If you have a Cort guitar and a Crate amp, don’t expect to sound like Jimi with a fuzz face. You will have to have an excellent guitar and amp, have played for at least several years, and used some other fuzz pedals to appreciate the sound and feel of our Sun Face or modified Fuzz Faces. It may also take some time to figure out how to make it work well with your other equipment.
Our Sunface and modified Fuzz Face pedals are made for the pros, but even a beginner should be able to get great tones if you work at it. Unlike a pedal like a Tube Screamer, which will always sound good if the right chip and other parts are installed correctly, a fuzzface is a very finicky circuit.

The original Muff Fuzz had just a touch of overdrive and sounded like a vintage amp with a slightly torn speaker. Electro-Harmonix paired two of these together in one box to create the Nano Double Muff.
Use just one Muff for a hint of milky distortion, or cascade the second Muff for over-the-top overdrive that turns the milk into cream.

Following on from my first haphazard foray into pedal building with the Colorsound Power boost fiasco, I can safely say that it was frustrating, educational and entertaining in equal measures. To this end I’ve decided to start blog posts detailing my various adventures, and misadventures in boutique pedal building. A licence to print money really, and all you get is a pedal that is a copy of an old 70’s design, maybe with a few enhancements.
Take for example the Power Boost that you’re all familiar with by now. I’ve probably not told you much about myself up to now, so here is a potted history. I’ve been playing the guitar since I was 13, semi pro since I was 18, turned pro at Worked at various studios in and around London, did sessions, etc etc. Got out of the pro business when I met my wife, now i’m in Engineering as a Quality Assurance Manager for a motor sport company.
My interest in electronics started last year when I decided that I couldn’t afford to buy the pedals that I wanted
